Along with her family Georgette Rousseau follows the drum to the war-torn peninsula. By the time she returns to England there are only three of the Rousseau family left alive. Adopted by her mother's brother, William Saint Day, she and her sisters begin a new life.

It is then, the man of Georgette's dreams and her worst fears walks into a London ballroom, sending her world topsy-turvy. Will he hold her past against her? Or will he realize he has judged her wrongly?
